I am originally from Manchester, but I have lived in Wales for over 18 years and I still have my Northern accent! I fell in love with Wales instantly and have stayed around! I am currently based in Cardiff but I was brought up in a little seaside town called Aberystwyth where the majority of my family live!
Not yet knowing Applied Behaviour Analysis existed, I studied my BSc in Applied Psychology at Swansea University, receiving a First class honours in 2014. I decided to focus my dissertation thesis on Relational Frame Theory, an area of Behaviour Analysis which was published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology. Following this, I knew I wanted to pursue a MSc in Applied Behaviour Analysis but I knew the financial difficulties that came with it. I spent my whole summer researching and writing to charities explaining my passion and how I wanted to improve people’s quality of life and make a difference but that I needed support to do so. With many rejections came a charity who kindly offered the full grant for me to pursue my goals, which resulted in me graduating in MSc Applied Behaviour Analysis in 2015. During completing my MSc, I also worked as an ABA tutor for young children with autism in both home and schools. I had worked with children previously as a learning support assistant with teenagers with autism in a mainstream school and had worked in America with teenagers to motivate them within activities during summer holidays. When working as an ABA tutor, I felt so fortunate that I had found the field that I loved and to appreciate what some may consider small, but is a huge skill for that individual and being with them on that journey. Following this, I became a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst in 2017 having worked in various settings such as mainstream and special needs schools, primary and secondary pupil referral units, home and clinic settings.
Although I am primarily based in Cardiff, South Wales, I provide consultation across the UK, in a multi and interdisciplinary manner on a range of full and part-time time home programmes and school programmes. I currently work with a range of children and teenagers up to the age of 16 with Autism, Global Developmental Disorders, Acquired Brain Injury, Fragile-X, Pathological Demand Avoidance and Anxiety.
Whilst working as a consultant directly with children on programmes, I also provide supervision for those working towards their BCBA qualification. I currently work within a special needs school to train a teacher to become a BCBA and teaching assistants to become Registered Behaviour Technicians so Behaviour Analysis can be integrated within their curriculum. I also provide BCBA supervision for staff members to develop and further their career goals within the company, in addition to providing well-being support for them as a Regional Manager in South Wales.
Outside of work, I love to explore, whether this is to travel to different countries or simply going on new walks locally. One of my favourite holidays was when I interrail around Italy and explored lots of different areas and enjoyed the Italian cuisine! Myself and my Partner recently introduced a Vizsla dog into our home and I love training him, going on long walks and receiving the cuddles at the end of the day. I can no longer have a low coffee table as his tail has a mind of its own. We have also enjoyed renovating our first house that we have just sold.
